After a night in my hometown of Mullingar we hit the road – my Canadian friend had said she wanted to see Kylemore Abbey which was something I wasn’t that excited about. I had seen the Abbey once before but this time we went inside and I have to admit it is pretty beautiful, inside and outside.
From there we drove to Rossaveal to the the ferry to Inis Mor, one of the Aran Islands. It had been a few years since I had visited the island and I was really excited to visit it again. I feel like the Aran Islands are what people think all of Ireland is like – it’s small enough so that everyone knows everyone else and they’re all really friendly. We only stayed one night but we got super lucky with the weather and were able to rent bikes and explore the island. We also ate more seafood than we thought was possible!
I really do recommend heading to the Aran Islands for a trip away, I feel like it’s such a good place to visit for both your heart and your head. We stayed one night in Galway and managed to fit in another place to eat that I hadn’t gotten to during #GalwayFoodieWeekend2K17 – Papa Rich Street Food Kitchen which had the most amazing Asian food I’ve had in Ireland. I’m still dreaming about that crispy duck salad!
We then headed back to Dublin, it felt like we had fit in so much in a couple of days! We had also been really lucky with the weather – it had been so hot and sunny that we felt like we were in a foreign country. All in all, a great staycation!
